What is the Difference Between Dementia and Alzheimer’s?

This is a great question! It seems these two terms are often used interchangeably, though they are not the same. Think of dementia as a big umbrella and a general term used for loss of memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking abilities that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. Underneath the umbrella of dementia are many different kinds of diseases that cause dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. It is not a normal aging process, it is the brain changing.

Focus on what they CAN do

There is no cure at this point in time but we are hopeful and believe that the brilliant minds of science and medical professionals will one day find a cure. Meanwhile, we strive to create an environment of positivity where our residents are encouraged to gain or maintain their independence and abilities. Focusing on what they can do and build on that foundation.
